Industry sectors which have used Keenan Research’s
specialised skills include:
Energy
As a safety-critical sector of industry, energy companies are always
at the cutting edge of reducing risk and ensuring their workforce
is safe in their employment. The management of alcohol and drugs
in the workplace plays a vital part in the achievement of this objective,
as does supporting people when they have experienced a serious incident.
The work which Keenan Research has carried out within
this sector has been to develop educational and training programmes
to enable managers and staff to appreciate the issues involves and
to develop appropriate skills to manage these issues to positive
effect.

Education
Teaching is fast becoming one of the most stressful areas of employment
in the UK. Specifically, the Further Education sector has suffered
major changes and upheavals which has led to one in five staff in
these establishments reporting that they feel ‘very’
or ‘extremely’ stressed in their jobs.
Keenan Research has worked with further education
establishments in conducting stress audits, using the HSE Management
Standards. These have pinpointed where the primary causes of organisational
stress seem to manifest themselves, making it easier for the establishments
to prioritise their strategy for tackling workplace stress. At a
secondary level, Keenan Research has also designed and delivered
workshops for both managers and staff in relation to informing them
more about the effects of stress and offering useful strategies
to assist them to cope better.

Public Transport
The interface with the public in any public transport system is
an essential element in the provision of the commercial service
which supports the wellbeing of the industry. However, levels of
unacceptable confrontation can sometimes be experienced by staff
because of operational problems which occur in any public transport
system. Assisting front-line staff to deal positive and proactively
with these incidents is a central part of the duty of care incumbent
on all employers.
Keenan Research has been involved in designing and
delivering several programme which assist staff to handle violence
within the workplace and these programme have be instrumental in
reducing both staff injuries and stress levels.
